Carry On Camping
Fun and games in the great outdoors!
Carry on Camping is without doubt one of the best known films of the series and controversial ones at that, primarily due to one infamous scene during morning exercise! Do I need to say more.
The story follows several groups who have decided to holiday at Camp Paradise, some intentionally, some purely by accident. Two of those, Sid Boggle (Sid James) and his friend Bernie Lugg (Bernard Bresslaw), who decide to go after seeing a naturist film at the cinema advertising the place which is seemingly full of blondes half their age, whilst inconveniently taking their wives with them. While businessman Peter Potter (Terry Scott) is forced to go camping with his happy-go-lucky wife Harriett (Betty Mardsen) who has one of the most bizarre and terrifying laughs in cinematic history.
This hapless collective are joined by the gormless cyclist Charlie Muggins (Charles Hawtry) and a group of finishing school girls who are taken there on a summer trip by their overtly strict principle Master Soaper (Kenneth Williams) and their Matron (Hattie Jacques), whom they constantly like to wind up. When they all of these people eventually meet in one shape or form it leads to some of the funniest goings-on.
This Carry On venture is also one of my absolute favourite movies of the entire series. It is totally bonkers in that lovable Carry On way, raunchy but not unpleasant or sexualised, just great fun to watch. Carry On Camping is quite frankly Carry On Brilliant.
