Carry On Follow That Camel is without doubt the most controversial movie of the series by today’s politically correct standards. This film does not tick the modern day taboo boxes and is probably all the better for it. Follow that Camel is one of the funniest films in the whole series even with the absence of Sid James, who is replaced by Phil Silvers, (Sergeant Knocker).
The plot is set at the turn of the 20th Century and follows Bertram Bo West (Jim Dale), who decides to run away and join the French Foreign Legion after a massive fallout with his family and friends regarding a game of cricket, he ends up serving under the command of Commandant Burger (Kenneth Williams). When Bo finds out that his girlfriend Jane (Angela Douglas) has been kidnapped by the Arabs, whilst looking for him and is being forced to marry their leader Sheikh Abdul Abulbul (Bernard Bresslaw). Bo goes out on patrol with Commandant Burger, Sergeant Knocker and all his comrades by his side to save Jane before it’s too late.
As already mentioned this film is totally politically incorrect by today’s standards, so you definitely won’t catch it on any of the main TV channels, it is well worth watching though, if you get the chance to buy a copy on DVD.
